Over the past weekend, 482 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 43 people were killed and 648 injured. 36 of the dead were passengers and drivers of vehicles. This was reported to Izvestia on April 7 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

For example, in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, on 44 km of the Vladikavkaz — Ardon—Lesken 2 regional highway, a passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with another passenger car. The driver of an oncoming car was killed in an accident. The culprit of the car accident and his passenger, as well as the passenger of the second car, were hospitalized with injuries.

As a result of 118 accidents, 42 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 76 outside their area of operation, seven pedestrians were killed, and another 115 were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 25 child pedestrians, 11 of whom were injured at pedestrian crossings.

19 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 23 more road users, including two child passengers, required medical attention. Nine bus accidents were caused by traffic violations by their drivers.

In Moscow, late in the evening, the driver of a city shuttle bus with 40 passengers in the cabin was unable to stop at a regulated intersection in the conditions of snowfall, drove at a forbidding traffic light and collided with another bus moving at a permissive signal. The second participant in the accident was traveling along a suburban route and was also carrying 40 passengers. After the collision, the first bus left the road and crashed into a pedestrian fence. As a result of the incident, both drivers, a passenger of the second bus and five passengers from the first bus were injured and ended up in hospital.

"We remind bus drivers that the life and health of their passengers during transportation depend on the skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior of the person in the control cabin. You transport people and are responsible for them before the law while they are in the vehicle you are driving. Therefore, always go out on a work shift well rested and healthy, and before leaving for the route, be sure to check the technical condition of the vehicles entrusted to you," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

He urged bus drivers to take advantage of the lanes allocated for public transport, observe the permitted speed limit and not violate the rules, take into account weather conditions, marking requirements, road signs and traffic lights. You should be extremely careful when approaching pedestrian crossings and crossing intersections. You should not rush to "skip" them as quickly as possible, thereby interfering with other road users, including pedestrians.

Over the past weekend, 78 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 91 young road users were injured, including 44 passengers, nine cyclists and eight motor transport drivers. One child, a pedestrian, was killed.

So, in one of the settlements of the Amur region, a 33-year-old female passenger car driver, moving through a courtyard, ran over a six-year-old girl, who suddenly ran out from behind a parked car into the roadway in front of a nearby vehicle. The girl, who was unaccompanied by adults, died.

The State Traffic Inspectorate recommended that motorists be more careful on the roads of towns and cities. Special care should be taken when driving through courtyards, crossing intersections, and approaching pedestrian crossings. Parents were reminded to monitor the leisure time and behavior of young children.

"Do not let them go outside alone, unattended, especially in the evening. Always accompany them during walks, trips to educational classes in clubs and sports sections. To improve the visibility of young pedestrians to drivers of vehicles, be sure to use retroreflective elements on children's outerwear. The lack of parental control over the behavior and leisure of preschool and primary school age children often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users," Anton Belan said.

On April 4, it was reported that the State Duma proposed to return a discount for motorists in the amount of 50% upon timely payment of the fine. The relevant amendments will be proposed by the deputies of the LDPR faction.
