Turkey will suspend lemon exports from April 8 due to the need to regulate domestic demand and recent frosts in areas where citrus fruits are mainly harvested. This was announced on April 7 by the Ministry of Trade of the country.

"In coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Trade has decided to temporarily stop the export of lemons from April 8 in light of the recent frosts and cold snap in a number of regions and to maintain a balance of supply and demand in the domestic market," the agency said on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

It is noted that the decision was made "in order to protect and increase domestic production, as well as to prevent speculative price increases amid frosts in the provinces of Mersin, Adana and Hatay in the south of the country.

On January 19, it was reported that in 2024, Russia began exporting fruits, nuts and vegetables to the European Union (EU) almost three times less than in 2023. In total, the association purchased the listed products from January to November last year in the amount of €121.1 million, which is 2.8 times lower than in the same months of 2023.
