Production of UAZ cars began in Cuba

Large-scale assembly of UAZ cars has started in Cuba. The planned volume of production of Russian-made cars on the island after the enterprise reaches its design capacity will be up to 500 vehicles per year. On April 7, Izvestia was informed about this in the press service of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant.
The plant is located in the industrial zone of the Cuban capital. The UAZ Patriot and Pickup models, adapted to the climatic and road conditions of the region, were the first to enter the assembly line.
The enterprise is scheduled to reach its design capacity in September 2025. The maximum production volume for three shifts will be 1,500 units per year. In the future, the list of models is planned to be expanded by the commercial UAZ Profi.
The launch ceremony of the serial production of UAZ cars was held in Havana. The project was implemented from scratch by Echo-Export, a long-time partner and distributor of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, and the Cuban company EISA. It became the brand's first platform for the production of domestic SUVs on another continent.
Sergey Dorogov, the head of the assembly production project in Cuba, called the launch of the new enterprise a confirmation of the relevance and relevance of Ulyanovsk cars. The Commercial director of Echo-Export LLC said that a system of maintenance and supply of spare parts from the central warehouse in Havana has already been built. EISA CEO Emilio Napoles Soto pointed out that the project makes it possible to reduce dependence on imports.
On April 3, it was reported that the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant began equipping the UAZ Patriot and Pickup models with the improved UAZ Navi multimedia system.
On April 2, serial production of new manual transmissions for UAZ Profi and Sollers models began at Sollers Transmission Manufacturing. UAZ Profi semi-trailers with rear-axle drive and diesel engine will be put on the UAZ conveyor in April 2025.
