The Central Bank of Russia may place the Russian flag on new banknotes

The Central Bank of the Russian Federation is considering the possibility of adding the image of the Russian flag to new banknotes. This was announced on April 7 by Vasily Prokofiev, Director of the Central Bank's Cash management department.
"Adding an additional image to the banknote design is equivalent to changing the graphic design of the entire banknote, which in turn requires the release of a new modification of the banknotes," RIA Novosti quoted Prokofiev as saying.
He also stated, responding to an appeal from the Institute of Socio-Economic Analysis and Development Programs, that when developing a new version of banknotes, the proposals of experts will be taken into account.
On April 4, Deputy Chairman of the regulator Sergey Belov announced that the Central Bank had begun developing an updated design of the 500-ruble banknote. In addition, in 2026, the modeling of banknotes in denominations of 10 and 50 rubles will begin. According to Belov, the release dates of the upgraded banknotes were shifted due to the fact that the symbol selection procedure was made open.
