Alexander Ovechkin, the Russian striker and captain of the Washington Capitals hockey club, said that he accidentally fell on the ice while celebrating a record goal in a match against the Islanders. This was announced on April 7 by Igor Rabiner, a columnist for the Sport-Express newspaper.

"By accident. I tripped and fell. But it turned out to be fun," Ovechkin said, answering a question about whether he jumped onto the ice on purpose after scoring the puck.

The hockey player added that he dedicates the record goal to his family and his loved ones.

On April 6, Ovechkin scored his 895th goal in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season against the New York Islanders, breaking the record of four-time Stanley Cup winner Wayne Gretzky, who scored 894 goals.

On the same day, the TV channels of the National Media Group (NMG) and the performer, the leader of the group "Hands Up!" Sergey Zhukov congratulated Ovechkin. Zhukov's congratulations came from a clip of the hockey player's favorite song from the repertoire of the musical group with a modified text dedicated to the record goal.
