A Malyutka-class submarine that disappeared during the Great Patriotic War was discovered in Peter the Great Bay. This was announced on April 7 by the press service of the Pacific Fleet (Pacific Fleet).

According to preliminary information, this is the M-49, launched on January 25, 1939. Communication with her was finally lost on August 16, 1941. 22 crew members died on board the crash. According to the Pacific Fleet's press service, such sunken boats are the mass graves of submariners.

It is noteworthy that on this day, April 7, Russia celebrates the Day of Remembrance of the dead submariners.

"In Vladivostok, on the territory of the union of submarines of the Primorsky Flotilla of diverse forces of the Pacific Fleet, military personnel and veterans of the fleet traditionally laid wreaths and flowers in memory of the dead submariners. The event was organized at the monument to the L-19 submarine," the military department said.

At the same time, events were held in Kamchatka to lay flowers at the wheelhouse of the sunken submarine L-16.

"The Pacific Fleet is systematically searching for sunken submarines. In 2024, the search work of the L-19 submarine in the La Perouse Strait was carried out by the large hydrographic boat Alexey Anashkin during a joint expedition of the Russian Geographical Society, the Hydrographic Service of the Pacific Fleet and the People of the Sea Foundation.

In 2006, during the search for the L-19, the American submarine Wahoo was discovered. Her remains lay in the La Perouse Strait.

On March 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized the launching of the new Perm nuclear-powered submarine. He noted that such vessels will strengthen the power of the Russian fleets and strengthen the security of the country's maritime borders.

Perm and Arkhangelsk are the latest multi-purpose nuclear submarines of the fourth generation. The latter joined the Russian Navy on December 27 last year. Perm is the sixth ship of the Yasen family of projects 885/885M, which is being built by Sevmash.
