The Russian Embassy in the United States has congratulated a Russian player of the Washington Capitals hockey club on setting a new record for goals scored in the National Hockey League (NHL). The corresponding statement was published on April 7 in the Telegram channel of the diplomatic mission.

"The Russian Embassy in the United States joins in the numerous congratulations addressed to our distinguished compatriot! We wish him good health and the conquest of new heights!", — stated in the message.

The diplomats also shared their sense of pride for Ovechkin, while noting the sincere respect of Americans for his person.

"It is encouraging that in recent weeks, literally the whole of America has been rooting for the conquest of the seemingly eternal previous record...> This is how sport should be — beyond borders and politics," the embassy said.

Russian forward and captain of the Washington Capitals hockey club Alexander Ovechkin scored his 895th goal in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season on April 6 against the New York Islanders, breaking the record of four-time Stanley Cup winner Wayne Gretzky, who scored 894 goals.

The TV channels of the National Media Group (NMG) holding and the performer, the leader of the Hands Up! group Sergey Zhukov congratulated Ovechkin with a world record clip for his favorite song from the repertoire of the musical group.
