Websites of 12 foreign hosting providers were blocked in Russia

In Russia, the websites of 12 large foreign hosting providers subject to the enforcement of the law on "landing" have been blocked, the amount of fines imposed on them is more than 400 million rubles, the press service of Roskomnadzor told Izvestia.

Such companies include Amazon Web Services, Hetzner, Network Solutions, WPEngine, HostGator, Ionos, DreamHost, FastComet, GoDaddy, Bluehost, DigitalOcean, Kamatera. Foreign hosting providers subject to "landing" are required to comply with the requirements of Law No. 236-FZ, namely: open a branch / representative office / Russian legal entity in Russia, post an electronic feedback form with Russian users on their website, register a personal account on the Roskomnadzor website for operational interaction with authorities.

"However, a number of companies have also failed to comply with these requirements. The total amount of fines for non-fulfillment of these duties in relation to foreign hosting providers is 402.9 million rubles," Roskomnadzor said.

Taking into account the risks to which the resources hosted at the facilities of these companies are exposed, the work of such providers may be limited on the territory of the Russian Federation, in which case they will not be able to provide hosting services to Russian organizations, they noted.

The Agency recommends that websites be hosted at the facilities of organizations that faithfully comply with Russian laws and are included in the register of hosting providers.

Today, organizations that deploy their resources at the facilities of foreign providers may face a number of serious threats. Thus, foreign operators can break off cooperation with the owner of the resource at any time, for example, for political reasons or internal decisions of the company, leaving the site inaccessible to users, Roskomnadzor explained.
