Dmitry Svishchev, First Deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports, named a stadium, a square or a street in honor of hockey player Alexander Ovechkin. The deputy said this in an interview with Izvestia on Sunday, April 6.

"From the point of view of promoting sports, Alexander deserves to have one of the stadiums, a square, named after him in the area where he lived. I hope that the initiative will be supported," Svishchev said.

He said that the 895 goals Ovechkin has already scored will become a reference point for future generations of hockey players. At the same time, the deputy believes that the athlete's record is unlikely to "ever be beaten."

"He is expected everywhere, he is a national favorite," concluded Svishchev.

Russian forward and captain of the Washington Capitals hockey club Alexander Ovechkin scored his 895th goal in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season on April 6 against the New York Islanders, breaking the record of four-time Stanley Cup winner Wayne Gretzky, who scored 894 goals.

The TV channels of the National Media Group (NMG) holding and the performer, the leader of the Hands Up! group Sergey Zhukov congratulated Ovechkin with a world record clip for his favorite song from the repertoire of the musical group.
