Fetisov congratulates Alexander Ovechkin on setting the NHL sniper record

State Duma deputy, two-time Olympic champion Vyacheslav Fetisov, in an interview with Izvestia on April 6, congratulated Russian forward of the Washington Capitals hockey club Alexander Ovechkin, who broke Wayne Gretzky's record for goals in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season championships.

"A great record in the history of not only domestic, but also world sports. We can be proud and congratulate Sasha," Fetisov said.

Also, according to Fetisov, "at this age, scoring 42 goals is an achievement."

"I also want to congratulate Ovechkin's mother Tatiana Nikolaevna, an Olympic champion, who brought up a great athlete, a man," Fetisov said.

Hockey player Danis Zaripov, in turn, in an interview with Izvestia, noted that Ovechkin aspires to be the first not only on the ice. According to the athlete, he has a good sense of humor, but "he can't get a word in his pocket."

Ovechkin scored his 895th goal in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season on April 6 against the New York Islanders, breaking the record of four-time Stanley Cup winner Wayne Gretzky, who scored 894 goals. He scored a goal against a compatriot playing for the opposing team, Ilya Sorokin. So, Ovechkin topped the ranking of the most accurate snipers in the league.
