About 10 thousand people took part in a rally in support of the leader of the parliamentary faction of the French National Unification Party, Marine Le Pen, on Vauban Square in Paris. This was reported on April 6 by the publication Liberation.

"The National Unification Party is gathering its forces this Sunday, April 6, in Paris after the conviction of Marine Le Pen," the article says.

At the same time, a counter-action took place in the capital, about 15 thousand people representing leftist movements gathered on Republic Square. They opposed the possible mitigation of the criminal prosecution of Le Pen.

"About 15,000 people took part in a demonstration uniting various leftist forces this Sunday in Paris," BFMTV points out.

On March 31, a court in Paris found Le Pen guilty of embezzlement of European Parliament funds in the case of creating fictitious jobs, sentencing her to four years in prison, two of which are suspended, and the remaining two years are house arrest with wearing an electronic bracelet. In addition, she also lost the right to participate in the 2027 presidential election. Also, on April 1, the French authorities launched a new investigation into Marine Le Pen due to threats against judges.

On April 4, US President Donald Trump called Marine Le Pen's sentence a witch hunt. The American leader stressed that he did not personally know Le Pen, but appreciated her work, which she had done for many years. He pointed out that the arrest would have a negative impact on France and its citizens, regardless of which side they were on.
