Matvienko pointed to Europe's desire to bring the world to the edge of the abyss

The European countries that provoked two world wars are once again bringing the whole world to the edge of the abyss. This opinion was expressed on April 6 by the Chairman of the Federation Council (SF) Valentina Matvienko.
"Europe, which was the source of two world wars, is once again bringing the planet to the edge of the abyss," she said, speaking at the plenary session of the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter—Parliamentary Union as part of a general discussion.
According to her, developing countries are also hostages of such a policy, since sanctions negatively affect the global economy as a whole and "worsen the food situation."
Matvienko also noted that an unprecedented number of restrictive measures have been introduced against Russia, "but anti-Russian repression does not work."
According to her, the Russian economy has successfully coped with the pressure, managed to rebuild itself, find new markets and "overtake the pace of development of those who impose sanctions."
Earlier, on April 4, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said that the Russian economy is developing and growing despite the sanctions imposed on the country. He also stressed that Russia is not currently making any explicit demands for the lifting of sanctions from the country.
