- Reuters has learned about Iran's unwillingness to negotiate directly with the United States on its nuclear program

Iran has rejected the US demand for direct negotiations on its nuclear program, warning neighboring countries with US military bases in the territory that they could be under attack if they become involved in the conflict. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on April 6.
A senior Iranian official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Iran wants to continue indirect talks through Oman, which has been a long-standing channel of communication between the warring parties.
"Indirect talks provide an opportunity to assess the seriousness of Washington's intentions regarding a political solution with Iran," he said.
According to the agency, Iran has sent notifications to Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey and Bahrain, according to which any support for the US attack on the Iranian side will be considered an act of hostility and will have "serious consequences" for them. This also concerns the use of their airspace or territory by the US military.
It is noted that Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has put the country's armed forces on high alert. At the same time, Reuters notes that U.S. President Donald Trump's warnings about possible military action against Iran have exacerbated the situation in the region, and concerns about a broader regional conflict have alarmed states around the Persian Gulf, which accounts for a significant share of global oil supplies.
Another Iranian official noted that Tehran is trying to get more support from Moscow, but is skeptical about Russia's obligations to its ally. According to him, it "depends on the dynamics" of relations between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on April 5 that Tehran seeks an equal dialogue with other countries and does not accept threatening attempts at negotiations from Washington. He also called on the Iranian people to unite in order to force the opponents of the state to think about the consequences of their attacks against the country.
On April 2, it was reported that Trump had threatened Iran with "extinction by September" if the country did not agree to the nuclear deal and curtail its program. The American leader has already warned Tehran that failure to conclude an agreement would lead to bombing of the Islamic Republic. On the same day, it became known that the United States and Israel could strike Iran in order to allegedly eliminate the threat posed by its nuclear program. It is specified that the countries are preparing for a military operation against Tehran.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, in turn, stated that threats of attacks on Iran's nuclear energy infrastructure were unacceptable, as they could lead to irreversible radiological and humanitarian consequences.
