The American accused of assaulting a police officer was forcibly hospitalized

A court in Moscow has granted a request from doctors at the N.A. Alekseev Clinical Hospital for the forced hospitalization of American Joseph Tater, accused of assaulting a police officer after a conflict at the Radisson Hotel in the capital. The case file attests to this on April 6.
"On March 15, 2025, a commission of psychiatrists identified the following mental disorders in citizen Tater Joseph: tension, impulsivity, delusions and relationships, harassment, special effects, lack of criticism of his condition. The commission came to the conclusion about the hospitalization of Tater Joseph," the documents say, the text of which is quoted by TASS.
Another psychiatric report says that during the investigation, a US citizen underwent an inpatient forensic psychiatric examination at the V.P. Serbsky National Medical Research Center.
It is clarified that the defense of Tatera considers the hospitalization illegal and unjustified.
On April 14, a court hearing will be held in the Meshchansky Court of Moscow to consider the criminal case on its merits. If a decision is made that it is impossible to consider the case due to the diagnosis of an American, he may be sent for compulsory treatment.
Tater staged a brawl when checking into a hotel in the Meshchansky district after being refused registration due to the lack of a migration card on August 12, 2024. Representatives of the hotel called the police, after the arrival of law enforcement officers, the American hit one of them. Two days later, he was arrested for 15 days. A criminal case was opened against the man under Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. His detention has been extended several times. On March 22, it became known that the investigation into the criminal case had been completed.
On September 26, Tater's lawyer said that he had come to Russia for political asylum. According to the man, his life is in danger, so he wants to stay in Russia. It was clarified that for 18 years the American had been arrested by the CIA on false charges. It is also known that Tater stated in court that he does not consider himself a US citizen.
