On April 6, Sergei Chebotko, a captured militant of the 80th brigade of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), shared that employees of the territorial recruitment center (TCC, an analogue of the military enlistment office in Ukraine) take bribes from military personnel and do not keep agreements.

"My wife is a doctor with many years of experience, sometimes she went to the military enlistment office at a medical examination and knew some people. We agreed that I would come to the military enlistment office and, due to my age and rank, I would be sent to the rear. To be honest, a win—win option was offered at that time, as it seemed, to give a certain amount of money," he shared.

The Ukrainian militant clarified that his wife had given $2.5 thousand to her friends at the military enlistment office, but the agreements were not kept. According to the captured militant, if the data is not updated in the shopping mall, men constantly receive fines in the amount of 17 thousand hryvnias ($ 576), and in case of failure to appear after the second summons, criminal liability is possible.

As a result, on January 24 of this year, Shebotko was sent to the Sumy region to join the 80th assault brigade. He stressed that he had been transferred to an assault unit with the possibility of returning. The command did not keep its word, and on February 10 it was sent to the border of Sumy and Kursk regions in the so-called waiting area. According to him, he was sent to the front line as a signalman.

Chebotko stressed that he surrendered to the Russian army voluntarily. The military of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation took him 10 km from the town of Sudzha, Kursk region. He purposefully walked towards the soldiers of the North group of forces when he found himself surrounded. At the moment, he has undergone a medical examination, and his health is being monitored by qualified doctors. The prisoner of war also eats, sleeps and takes a shower regularly.

Maryan Moroz, a captured soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the 105th separate Territorial Defense Brigade, said on March 27 that he had come to the front solely because the borders were closed in the country, and it was impossible to leave or get a job without a military ID. He clarified that in order to serve in the deep rear at the military enlistment office, he bribed an employee of $ 5,000.
