On the night of April 5-6, Moscow was hit by heavy snowfall. Up to 15 mm of precipitation fell in some areas of the Russian capital. According to forecasters, precipitation will not stop in the next 24 hours. Details can be found in the Izvestia article.

Heavy snowfall in Moscow

Last night, 43% of the monthly precipitation fell in the south of the Moscow Region, Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, said on April 6.

He noted that the reason for such a heavy snowfall was Cyclone Zion, which "brought real winter to Moscow at night."

"Three mm of precipitation fell in the capital overnight, in the south of the region: in Naro-Fominsk — seven mm, Kolomna — nine mm, Serpukhov — ten mm, Mikhnevo — 15 mm, or 43% of the monthly norm," the forecaster said in his Telegram channel.

When will the snowfall end in Moscow

According to the meteorologist, snowfalls are now falling in a latitudinal direction from west to east: in the Smolensk, Kaluga, Moscow, Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod regions. In the southern regions, precipitation is turning into rain, Tishkovets warned.

Temporary snow cover may be established in most of the Moscow region until late in the evening on April 7.

The Hydrometeorological Center has declared a "yellow" weather hazard level for April 6 and 7. A storm warning is in effect in the Moscow region due to snowfall and strong winds.

The Moscow Traffic Management Center has urged motorists to travel in the next few days only on winter tires or use public transport amid snowfall in Moscow. This is reported by the press service of the metropolitan Department of Transport.

"If you haven't had time to replace your summer tires with winter tires yet, we recommend using public transport for trips," the experts concluded.

The ministry added that drivers should keep their distance, speed limits, and avoid sudden accelerations and decelerations.

While in Moscow, according to Yandex.Maps", there are no traffic jams, but they may appear in the evening.
