"Total Dictation - 2025" was held in 50 countries around the world

The annual Total Dictation event kicked off worldwide for the 21st time on April 5. Residents of 50 countries around the world, from Serbia to China, were able to check their literacy and language proficiency.
"Total dictation has a big serious mission, at least to popularize our native Russian language," said Marina Kravets, an actress, TV and radio presenter.
Famous people, including musicians, presenters and artists, often find themselves at the desk as part of the campaign. It is especially important to never stop studying in today's world, in which technology and mobile phones often literally think for a person.
"So you write yourself a note on your phone, and the phone corrects everything for you. And you don't know how to write correctly. And many others don't know. Let's face it - we are all becoming less and less literate," said TV presenter Dmitry Shepelev.
Initially, dictation was only a small student event in Novosibirsk. However, the whole world knows about him now.
"Today was a wonderful text, I think it was so positive and about travel," Inessa Smirnova, one of the many participants in the action, shared her impressions.
One of the goals of the project is to promote literacy. Both children and adults can write dictation. Moreover, this can be done both online and offline.
The event was held even during the flight among the passengers on board the airliner. This year, the action was also held at the highest level — on a flying balloon. Another notable place to test your knowledge was the river tram running along the Moskva River.
"Commas, dashes, colons, that's just interesting to remember. Double—check," said another participant of the action, Camilla.
The unusual venues were not chosen by chance by the organizers. After all, they were all reflected in the adventure stories of Marina Moskvina, the author of the dictation text of 2025.
"I'm talking about traveling to the sky, and to the north, and to the south, and to the east, and to the west. And that everywhere I went, I was greeted by very friendly people," she said.
For residents of Serbia, total dictation is held annually. The participants who come to test their knowledge note the necessity and uniqueness of this event.
"It seems to me that this is a very cool campaign that has been around for so long and that unites such a large number of people. I'm also learning English. We have never written English dictation," said Sonja, a resident of Belgrade.
In total, the dictation brought together citizens of 50 countries. This is another reminder that there are no borders for the Russian language.
The "Total Dictation" campaign is taking place across the country on April 5. At a press conference in the Izvestia News Center on March 27, the topic of the test was announced — travel. Participants were invited to test their literacy using the text of Marina Moskvina, a finalist of the Yasnaya Polyana Prize, winner of the Andersen International Honorary Diploma.
This year, the theme of Total Dictation 2025 was a sea voyage to the Arctic
