- The French prime minister announced interference in the country's affairs because of Trump's support for Le Pen.

US President Donald Trump's support for Marine Le Pen, the arrested head of the French right-wing National Unification party, is interference in the country's affairs. This was stated by French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou in an interview with the Parisien newspaper.
"Yes, and interference has become the law of the world. There are two things in this proposal: first, there are no more borders for major political debates. Everything that happens here is transmitted to Washington. And we are rightly worried about what is happening, for example, in Turkey," he replied to a corresponding question from a journalist.
Bayrou also pointed out the erroneous assumption of the previous French authorities that the country's chosen "concept of democracy and the rule of law will spread irresistibly everywhere on the planet."
On March 31, a court in Paris found Le Pen guilty of embezzlement of European Parliament funds in the case of creating fictitious jobs, sentencing her to four years in prison, two of which are suspended, and the remaining two years are house arrest with wearing an electronic bracelet. In addition, she also lost the right to participate in the presidential elections of 2027. Also, on April 1, the French authorities launched a new investigation into Marine Le Pen due to threats against judges.
On April 4, Trump called Marine Le Pen's sentence a witch hunt. The American leader stressed that he did not personally know Le Pen, but appreciated her work, which she had done for many years. He pointed out that the arrest would have a negative impact on France and its citizens, regardless of which side they were on.
