The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has reached the popularity level of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) faction for the first time. This was reported by the Bild newspaper on April 5, citing data from the INSA institute.

According to the survey results, the CDU/CSU's rating has dropped to 24% over the past week. At the same time, support for the AfD increased by two percentage points and reached the same level.

Thus, for the first time in the history of observations, both political forces equaled the level of voter support.

Alice Weidel, chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, said on March 13 that Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), was trying to carry out a "financial coup" in order to increase military spending and help Ukraine.

Earlier in the day, AFD Secretary Bernd Baumann said that Merz could become Chancellor of Germany for a very short time, as German voters would not forgive him for deception and fraud.
