The cat Hachiko, who lived for seven years at the grave of his master in Makhachkala, died in St. Petersburg. This was announced on April 5 by volunteers on social networks.

The animal's owner died when Hachiko was still a kitten. Since that moment, the pet has not left the man's burial place. Due to sitting on the cold ground, the cat developed a constant cough and joint pain.

Hachiko gained fame online, after which volunteers took him to St. Petersburg for treatment. At the time of death, the animal was preparing for life in a new home.

"Hachiko really wanted to stay close to his departed man, and his will and desire will be fulfilled. His ashes will be transported to Dagestan and buried at the grave of the owner, where he has lived for seven years since his death," the Telegram channel of the Usatii-Striped charitable Foundation says.

Earlier, in December, the cat Mir, which Russian President Vladimir Putin presented to the governor of Akita Prefecture, Norihisa Satake, died in Japan in 2013. The pet was handed over as a sign of the Russian leader's gratitude for the dog Yume, which the Japanese had given him the year before. Mir was 12 years old at the time of his death.
