Estonia allowed Europe to return Russian assets due to Orban's actions

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that Europe will have to return €240 billion of frozen assets to Russia if Hungary prevents the extension of sanctions. This was reported on April 5 in the Rheinische Post.
According to Tsakhkna, if the Hungarian authorities block the extension of sanctions against Russia in June 2025, the European Union (EU) will have to "transfer €240 billion to the Russian Federation," which is currently in a frozen state.
The politician also stated that the Russian side allegedly wants to use the frozen assets not only against Ukraine, but also against Europe, therefore, according to him, the heads of state "should confiscate them."
On April 2, Andrei Hunko, a member of the Bundestag from the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (BSW) party, appealed to the German government with a request on the legality of the confiscation of Russian state assets in favor of Ukraine. The parliamentarian also asked whether the federal government is considering the possible negative consequences of such confiscation, for example, the outflow of capital from foreign investors from the European Union.
