- Zakharova declared the patronage of the UN and OSCE of the repression of Russians in the Baltic States

Russia qualifies the attitude of the leadership of the United Nations (UN) and other relevant structures towards violations of the rights of the Russian-speaking population in the Baltic States as covering up the repressive regimes of these countries. This was announced on April 5 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
She noted that Russian diplomats regularly raise these issues within the framework of the work of the UN venues in New York and Geneva and at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which are engaged in the protection of human rights.
"We regularly raise issues of repression against the Russian and Russian-speaking population by the authorities of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, as well as persecution and restrictions based on nationality <...>. We are sending appropriate appeals to the relevant monitoring and executive structures, calling on them to assess the illegal actions of the Baltic authorities," the diplomat said in a comment to the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
Zakharova added that in the West it has already become a habit to send meaningless replies or leave Moscow's requests completely unanswered. However, Russian diplomats are not going to back down and will continue their work.
"Given the politicized bias in the work of both the UN structures and the OSCE, this has become the routine of the day. We classify this attitude as the actual cover—up of the repressive police regimes of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia," the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
March 11, political scientist and editor-in-chief of the analytical portal RuBaltic.Ru Alexander Nosovich spoke about the reasons for the historically high level of xenophobia towards Russians, Poles, Belarusians and Jews in Lithuania. According to him, this is due to the fact that the Lithuanian nation and culture emerged from the isolation of themselves from other, much stronger and more influential cultures and peoples, and therefore pose a threat to the survival of Lithuanian identity.
In January 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that in the Baltic states, Russian people are being thrown out of the cordon, which directly affects Russia's security.
