- Kamensky called the repetition of Gretzky's record Ovechkin's achievement in world hockey.

Alexander Ovechkin, the Russian striker of the Washington Capitals hockey club, has repeated the record of four-time Stanley Cup winner Wayne Gretzky for goals in the regular championships of the National Hockey League (NHL). This is an achievement of world hockey. Olympic hockey champion Valery Kamensky told Izvestia about this on April 5.
"I believe that this is an achievement of world hockey and, of course, it will be an achievement of Russian hockey, an achievement of Sashino. For everyone, this is (setting a record with a new number of strokes. — Ed.) it will be, as they say, a holiday. We are glad that our true Russian has reached such heights. Congratulations to him, his family, relatives, children," he said.
Kamensky stressed that Ovechkin's success proves his superiority and that he has no equal. He noted that the goalkeepers could not catch his pucks, and wished the Russian to score them further.
Earlier that day, Ovechkin scored his 894th goal in the match against HC Chicago of the NHL regular season, repeating Gretzky's sniper record. The Canadian hockey player personally congratulated the Russian player on the event. After the match, the athletes also took a photo together in the locker room.
The NHL recognized Ovechkin as the first and second stars of the last game day.
