Alexander Ovechkin, the Russian forward of the Washington Capitals hockey club, was recognized as the first and second stars of the last game day in the National Hockey League (NHL) at the same time. This was reported by the league's press service.
In the home match with the Chicago Blackhawks, which ended with a score of 5:3, Ovechkin scored a double and caught up with Canadian Wayne Gretzky on goals in the regular NHL championships.
They now have 894 goals scored. Ovechkin also became the league record holder for the number of winning goals (136), surpassing the achievement of Czech Jaromir Jagr (135). The third star was 20-year-old Washington forward Ryan Leonard, who scored his NHL debut goal in the match.
Earlier that day, in a match against HC Chicago, Ovechkin scored his 894th goal in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season and repeated Wayne Gretzky's sniper record.
