The French government expresses concerns about the possible interest of the United States in annexing its territories, similar to the situation with Greenland. This was reported on April 4 by the newspaper Le Figaro.

"This could happen to us," the female minister said on condition of anonymity.

It clarifies that the country's overseas territories, such as New Caledonia, may be under threat.

In December last year, US President Donald Trump said that for the United States, ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity. Prior to that, he expressed interest in buying the island from Denmark in 2019, but was refused. In 2025, Trump was also told that the island was not for sale and would not be, but Denmark could cooperate more with the United States.
