- French businesses refused to comply with Macron's demand not to invest in the United States

Some French entrepreneurs do not intend to comply with the demand of French President Emmanuel Macron and curtail investments in the US economy due to duties. This was reported on April 4 by the newspaper Le Figaro.
"The presidential ban issued the day after [US President Donald] Trump announced the introduction of 20 percent duties on imports from Europe, and did not convince large corporations implementing projects in Uncle Sam's country to stop all actions," the article says.
According to representatives of large businesses, such statements about the suspension of projects in the United States are worrying.
"I don't care what Macron says. We have representative offices in the United States. There's no question of leaving them like that. We must respect our obligations to our employees, our customers and our shareholders," said the head of CAC 40.
On April 2, Trump announced large-scale measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For Europe, this figure has been increased to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again. The next day, the Chinese authorities decided to impose retaliatory duties of 34% on goods imported from the United States.
Yuri Ichkitidze, an analyst at Freedom Finance Global, said on April 3 that the introduction of new duties could lead to a slowdown in US economic growth in 2025, as well as provoke an increase in inflation. According to him, the negative effect for the United States is associated with the "boomerang effect" — retaliatory measures and rising prices. Inflation may increase by 1-1.5% this year.
