SKA hockey player Mikhail Grigorenko wished Russian Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin a hat trick in the next match against the Chicago Blackhawks. On Friday, April 4, the hockey player told Izvestia.

"We're all watching, we're all worried <...> I hope for a hat trick in the next match, that he will break [Wayne Gretzky's] record," the athlete shared.

Grigorenko added that Ovechkin's heroic health, genes and crazy dedication allowed him to build such a successful career.

Ovechkin has scored 892 goals during his career in regular championships. The 39-year-old Russian has only two goals left to repeat Gretzky's sniper record (894 goals) and three to overcome it.

On April 3, the NHL compared the preparations for Ovechkin's possible record for goals in the regular season with the Stanley Cup finals. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and many executives visited the Lenovo Center on Wednesday, where Ovechkin scored his 892nd goal. According to the league, it has been preparing for Ovechkin's record 895th goal for several months.

Ovechkin himself admitted that he feels support from four-time Stanley Cup winner Wayne Gretzky in pursuit of his goalscoring record. On the night of April 3, the Russian scored his 892nd goal in the regular NHL championships, it happened in a match against the Carolina Hurricanes. Ovechkin's team lost with a score of 5:1. The Russian has two goals left to repeat Gretzky's record and three to surpass it.
