On April 4, Izvestia published footage depicting an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the area of the installation of the Poklonny cross by Russian servicemen in the Zaporizhia region.

On December 22, 2024, a group of Russian Cossacks, including the ataman of the All-Russian Cossack Society Vitaly Kuznetsov, installed a cross of worship in the Zaporozhye region.

At the time of the ceremony, Ukrainian militants opened mortar fire on the area where the Cossacks were. Footage from the scene captured the exploding shells of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the VCO, thanks to the operational measures, none of the participants were injured. Despite the shelling and threat from enemy drones, the Cossacks managed to restore the Cross of Worship, which had previously been destroyed during the Ukrainian counteroffensive.

Additional forces, including the Bars-11 detachment, were deployed to protect the group, and all necessary security measures were taken.

Earlier, on January 7, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had gone to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, where Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, at his request, consecrated crosses and icons for military personnel in the special military operation zone.
