The allies have heard a clear message from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about Washington's commitment to the North Atlantic Alliance. This was announced on April 4 by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

"At the same time, it is expected that Europe and Canada should take on more responsibility for common defense and increase defense spending," Rutte said in an interview with reporters broadcast on the NATO website.

Rutte added that all the countries of the bloc have declared their intention to manufacture more weapons and increase the pace of military production.

"NATO allies will seek to eliminate conflict in their international economic policies and will encourage economic cooperation between some or all of them," the Secretary General added.

Earlier in the day, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Europe should develop specific proposals for Ukraine's security. The Secretary of State also noted that "less talk and more action" are needed.
