On April 4, US President Donald Trump announced that he had held a conversation with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Toh Lam, who expressed Hanoi's readiness to cancel all duties on American goods.

"Vietnam wants to reduce its tariffs to zero if they manage to conclude an agreement with the United States. I thanked him (The Lama. — Ed.) on behalf of our country and said that I look forward to meeting in the near future," Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.

According to the American president, he and Tom had a "very productive conversation."

On April 4, Trump commented on the retaliatory duties from the People's Republic of China (PRC), saying that China "panicked" and "did the wrong thing." China imposed duties of 34% against the United States on the same day.

On April 2, the American leader announced large-scale trade measures: base tariffs of 10% are introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the European Union (EU), this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again.
