Russia will continue to provide economic support and humanitarian assistance to Cuba. This was announced on April 4 by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

"We will continue to provide economic support and humanitarian assistance to fraternal Cuba both through bilateral channels and through specialized international structures," Chernyshenko said during the 22nd meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Cuban Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

He also noted that a program of emergency measures was proposed to minimize the consequences of the energy crisis that occurred on the island at the end of last year.

Earlier, on April 3, Chernyshenko, at a meeting with the governor of Santiago de Cuba province, Manuel Falcon Hernandez, said that Russia regards the US sanctions against Cuba as a manifestation of impotence and expresses full solidarity with the republic. He also added that Russia will continue to seek the exclusion of Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism and the end of its blockade.

Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko said on March 27 that parliamentary ties strengthen relations between Havana and Moscow. She stressed that the confidential dialogue between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez sets the tone for a complex of strategic partnership relations.
