- The parliament recognized the impossibility of banning the Russian language in Ukrainian schools due to EU regulations

It is impossible to ban the Russian language in Ukrainian schools, as it violates the norms of the European Union (EU). This statement was made on April 4 by the head of the Educational Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Sergei Babak, as quoted by UkraNews.
"Given Ukraine's aspirations to join the European Union, as well as the recommendations of the Venice Commission and the demands of individual EU member states, we cannot establish an outright ban on the use of indigenous languages in educational legislation, including in relation to the Russian language," Babak said.
He noted that such a ban could be perceived as a discriminatory measure, which would negatively affect the process of Ukraine's accession to the European Union. "Газета.Ru ".
On March 12, MP Maxim Buzhansky (Servant of the People party) announced that a new bill had been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada proposing to completely ban the use of the Russian language in Ukrainian schools, including during recess. He noted that the essence of the project has not changed since the last attempt to ban the Russian language.
In October 2024, Natalia Pipa, deputy and secretary of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Innovation, submitted to the Parliament a bill that would ban only Russian language in all schools in Ukraine. It was noted that it is allowed to speak in any other language.
In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, at a meeting with Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Vulin on August 14 of the same year, stressed the need to curb the activities of the Ukrainian leadership to destroy the Russian language, education, media, culture, as well as the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).
