- Hutsul announced a stream of lies addressed to her in order to deprive her of the mandate of the head of Gagauzia

The head of the Gagauz Autonomy, Evgenia Gutsul, said that she had received a stream of lies about herself and the subsequent arrest, which was organized by the Moldovan authorities in order to try to deprive her of the mandate of the head of the autonomy within the republic. This is stated on April 4 in the statement of the politician, which she transmitted through her lawyers.
"Today, a regular court session was held in a case, the true purpose of which is not justice, but the removal of me from fulfilling the mandate given to me by the people of Gagauzia. In the complete absence of evidence, I was not just slandered — I was deprived of the right to fulfill my duty to the Gagauz people, to take care of my family, to be with my children," the text of the statement in the Hutsul Telegram channel is quoted.
As the politician pointed out, her criminal prosecution was organized in order to "stifle the voice of Gagauzia" and deprive the residents of the autonomy of the right to their own identity.
"That is why the consolidated position of the residents of Gagauzia is so important. I sincerely thank everyone who comes to court sessions, who goes out to peaceful protests, who is not afraid to tell the truth out loud," she stressed.
On April 3, the official representative of the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, said that the United Nations (UN) is monitoring the situation with the arrest of the Hutsul and emphasizes the need to comply with legal procedure and the rule of law. On April 2, after her arrest, the politician herself called on UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to pay attention to the situation around the region. Gutsul stressed that the Moldovan judicial system is being used by the authorities as a tool to "dismantle the autonomy" of Gagauzia.
Hutsul was detained at the Chisinau airport on March 25. According to the Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office, this happened after her name was found on the list of persons prohibited from leaving the country. On March 28, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days.
