The German Foreign Ministry recommended not to invite official representatives of Russia and Belarus to commemorative events on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. This was reported on April 4 by the Berliner Zeitung newspaper with reference to an internal document of the department.

"Districts and municipalities are advised not to send invitations to Russian and Belarusian diplomats, and if necessary, even to expel uninvited guests," the publication says.

The newspaper pointed out that the document advises sending representatives of Germany to commemorative events in other countries, even if representatives of the Russian Federation and Belarus will be present there.

In addition, the publication drew attention to the fact that a number of heads of district administrations of the Brandenburg land are wondering why it is necessary to punish the descendants of the Red Army soldiers who liberated Germany from Nazism.

Earlier, on March 30, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called for a tough fight against the rewriting of history by the European Union (EU) countries. He stressed that in some EU states, the criminals convicted by the Nuremberg Tribunal are being equalized with those who liberated Europe from fascism.

Sergei Naryshkin, director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, said on March 26 that EU countries are trying to rewrite the history of the twentieth century so that the younger generation believes that Russia was not the victor of Nazism in World War II. According to him, the EU states have adopted the propaganda techniques of the Third Reich.
