The European Union (EU) is not going to fine the social network X (ex. Twitter) of entrepreneur Elon Musk for $ 1 billion for violating the law on combating illegal content and disinformation. This was announced on April 4 by the representative of the European Commission Thomas Rainier.

"The allegations that the European Commission is preparing a fine of more than a billion against X are not true. There are no such proposals in the European Commission as part of any investigations against X," Thomas Rainier said at a briefing in Brussels.

On the same day, The New York Times reported that European regulators are considering the possibility of imposing a fine of more than $1 billion on the social network X. According to the article, the alleged fine was planned to be so huge as to deter other companies from violating the law on digital services.
