The trade war between China and the United States is hurting both sides, and the situation is becoming less predictable. Yuri Ichkitidze, analyst at Freedom Finance Global, told Izvestia on April 4.

Earlier in the day, the Chinese authorities decided to impose retaliatory duties of 34% on goods imported from the United States.

"Trade between China and the United States is now very unprofitable. Both states will suffer, and no one will be the net beneficiary," the analyst notes.

According to him, a reduction in capital inflows due to the escalation of the conflict may be especially painful for the United States.

"The situation is beyond reasonable. China is independent enough to act on equal terms, and understands that it will not be significantly worse off than the United States," emphasizes Ichkitidze.

According to the expert, the American elites understand that confrontation will not lead to positive results. The sensible approach of world leaders is to explain to US President Donald Trump that such actions will not benefit anyone.

In addition, the new duties will lead to higher inflation and a slowdown in the global economy. In the United States, inflation could reach 3.5–3.8% in 2025, and GDP growth in China and the EU will decline even more if domestic stimulus measures are not taken.

"Before the tariffs were introduced, there was a Win-Win partnership situation, then one of the partners decided to turn the situation into a Win-Lose, but since he was answered, the situation began to turn into a Lose-Lose," Ichkitidze summed up.

On April 2, Trump announced large-scale measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again.
