The implementation of the atomic project in 1943 allowed Russia to become a technological superpower. Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center, told Izvestia about this on April 4.

"Today you and I are alive and living in one of the few, almost single, sovereign states only because more than 80 years ago, in 1943, on April 12, our government and part of the scientific community made the right decision to implement the atomic project," Kovalchuk said.

According to him, Russia has successfully implemented this project and has become a technological superpower. He also added that Russian President Vladimir Putin has made a lot of efforts to strengthen the country's nuclear potential.

Kovalchuk noted that Russia's nuclear triad is the best in the world today, and therefore the country can look absolutely calmly into the future.

On February 11, 1943, a decree was passed in Russia on the beginning of practical work on the creation of atomic weapons. The scientific management of all the works was entrusted to physicist Igor Kurchatov.

In February of this year, during the forum of future technologies, Putin thanked the Kurchatov Institute for its scientific work. The President noted the effective work of the research center in the field of genetics and mentioned the possibility of creating underwater gas carriers.
