The engineer was sentenced to four years in the case of the deaths of people in the Vremena Goda shopping center

The chief engineer of the commercial organization responsible for the section of the heating network pipeline in the Vremena Goda shopping center was sentenced to four years in prison. This was announced on April 4 by the Moscow Prosecutor's Office.

"The chief engineer of a commercial organization responsible for a dangerous production facility in the form of a section of a heating network pipeline located in a shopping center was sentenced to four years in a penal colony," the department wrote on its Telegram channel.

In addition, the engineer is prohibited from engaging in activities related to industrial safety control for two years.

The court found the man guilty under Part 3 of Article 217 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of industrial safety requirements of hazardous production facilities, which negligently caused major damage, serious harm to human health and negligently caused the death of four persons).

It is specified that the material damage to the tenant's organization exceeded 27 million rubles.

The hot water pipe in the Vremena Goda shopping center broke in July 2023. Four people were killed in the accident. At least ten people were hospitalized with burns of varying severity. Doctors examined several more victims on the spot. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, the root cause of the incident was a breakdown of the internal heat pipeline. At the same time, a criminal case was opened into the deaths of people.
