The investigation will take into account all the materials received during the investigation of the criminal case of the tanker crash in the Kerch Strait. This was announced on March 4 by the Investigative Committee of Russia.
It is specified that the criminal case is being investigated under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of traffic safety and operation of maritime transport").
"The investigation will carefully study all the submitted materials and attach them to the criminal case. The data contained in them will be taken into account in the criminal law assessment of the events that took place," the agency's website says.
According to the Investigative Committee of Russia, forensic examinations, including technical and environmental ones, are currently being conducted, as well as other investigative measures. Charges were brought against a number of participants in the criminal case.
Tankers Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15, 2024 due to bad weather. The incident caused a spill of petroleum products. 27 people were evacuated from both ships, one person died. On behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group was set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency.
