Valery Novoselov, a geriatrician, neurologist and head of the Department of Gerontology at Moscow State University, questioned whether the information about the 140-year-old resident of the Afghan province of Khost was reliable.

In conversation with aif.ru On Friday, April 4, he pointed out that there are no recorded cases in the world confirming such a record life expectancy.

"There are no reliably registered men on the planet older than 114-115 years. And the record of 122 years and 164 days attributed to Jeanne Kalman is false," Novoselov stressed.

According to him, on average, men live less than women, and statements about 140-year-olds are often unfounded. The expert added that even if a person could live to such an advanced age, he would inevitably be in an extremely serious condition.

He stressed that we are also talking about complete psychophysiological decomposition — dementia, physical inactivity, incontinence, inability to move without assistance.

Earlier in the day, Tolo news portal reported that, presumably, the oldest man in the world was found in Afghanistan. The elder's name is Akel Nazir, and he is said to be 140 years old. It is also known that he has a family of 100 people. According to Nazir himself, when Afghanistan gained independence from Britain, he was about 30 years old.

Moreover, he remembers well the time of the reign of King Amanullah Khan of Afghanistan and the celebration of Independence Day from British rule, writes "Moscow 24". Local authorities will send a special commission to the centenarian, who will be able to check the age of the man, IA Regnum notes. If his words are confirmed, he will receive medical assistance and a full examination, and then his name will be entered in the book of world records, the website reports. kp.ru .

In October, Valery Novoselov said that by 2050, there will be more than 3.5 million centenarians. In his opinion, this growth is due to the development of medicine, notes 360.ru .

Before that, in September last year, it was reported that Japan had broken the record for life expectancy. More than 95,000 people aged 100 and over live in the country, almost 90% of them are women.
