Demonstrators tried to disrupt Prime Minister Viktor Orban's speech on the morning program of the Kossuth radio station, protesting against the country's withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC). This was announced on April 4. 24.hu .

According to the portal, some protesters came with batons and brought a Palestinian flag.

"Before the start of the event, the police urged the organizers not to occupy the roadway and observe the rules for holding meetings, but they considered that these rules did not apply to them," the publication says.

In addition, the protesters formed a group, sitting on the ground at the gate. However, the police officers demanded that everyone stand up and show their identification cards. It is noted that one of the demonstrators reacted aggressively to the actions of law enforcement officers.

Meanwhile, Orban got out of the car at the main entrance and headed to the building of the MTVA media holding, where the editorial office of Radio Kossuth is located. At that moment, the protesters were shouting and whistling behind the police cordon.

On April 3, Orban announced Hungary's decision to withdraw from the ICC, saying that the organization had lost its independence and turned into a political institution. According to him, this was especially evident in the court's decisions on Israel. He stressed that the country, as a democratic constitutional state, cannot participate in the work of a politically motivated international court.

On April 1, the international human rights organization Amnesty International called on Hungary to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who will visit the country at the invitation of his Hungarian counterpart. According to the organization, the Hungarian prime minister stated that he would not execute the warrant issued by the ICC, although as a member state of the European Union, the country is obliged to do so.

The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant on November 21, 2024. The court ruled that the two politicians were responsible for war crimes against the civilian population. The United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Estonia expressed their willingness to comply with this court decision, while the United States and France opposed it.
