The world's richest people lost more than $200 billion in a day after US President Donald Trump imposed duties on goods from a number of countries. This is evidenced by the data of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index (BBI) rating, published on April 4.

"On Thursday, the combined wealth of the 500 richest people in the world decreased by $208 billion due to the fact that President Donald Trump announced the introduction of broad duties, which brought global markets to a standstill," the agency said in a statement.

According to the report, the founder of Meta (her activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) Mark Zuckerberg lost $17.9 billion as the company's shares fell 8.96% in trading. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' fortune also decreased by $15.9 billion. It is specified that the shares of his company have fallen in price by about 9%.

In addition, American entrepreneur Elon Musk lost $11 billion due to a decrease in the value of Tesla securities.

On April 2, Trump announced large-scale measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again.
