The Russian Ambassador to Slovakia spoke about respect for the memory of the Second World War

The memory of the Second World War and the Red Army soldiers who liberated Bratislava has been passed down in Slovakia from generation to generation. Russian Ambassador to the country Igor Bratchikov told Izvestia about this on Friday, April 4.

According to him, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico plans to attach special importance to the 80th anniversary of the Victory. This year's celebration is scheduled to take place on May 8th.

"The Embassy, for its part, is planning a large traditional reception with the invitation of the authorities and Slovak friends. And on May 9, our diplomats with their families and compatriots will come to the Bratislava Memorial," Bratchikov shared.

In addition to the celebrations in the country, Fico is also planning a visit with a delegation to Moscow, and preparations for this are now in full swing.

"Preparations have now entered a hot phase — the escort of Prime Minister Fico is being formed, he has already announced that a large delegation will indeed go with him," the ambassador said.

Bratchikov added that as part of the celebrations in the Russian capital, Fico will also have contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Separately, the ambassador spoke about the constructive dialogue between Russian diplomats and the Slovak government, but clarified that difficulties remain, and they are mainly related to the restrictions imposed by the European Union.

Earlier, on February 28, Tomasz Szpacek, president of the Slavic Committee in the Slovak Republic, told Izvestia about the importance of cooperation with Russia. According to him, activity in the Russian Federation is important because it is the largest Slavic power. Slovakia should cooperate with Russia, because this way it is possible to create a center of power, as in Europe, China, and the United States.
