Virologist refuted the WHO statement about the threat of a new pandemic

Alexey Agranovsky, professor of the Department of Virology at the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University, denied the statement by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization (WHO), about the threat of a new pandemic "tomorrow."

In conversation with aif.ru On April 2, the specialist pointed out that this statement should not be taken seriously. To date, according to Agranovsky, "there is nothing serious on the horizon." This does not mean that it will not appear, he added.

"Such a statement from the WHO is like a training exercise for civil defense forces, hypothetical scenarios of what might happen and what should be done, and whether we are ready if a new threat occurs," Agranovsky expressed his opinion.

He stressed that there is no immediate threat, as there is no point in scaring people in vain. According to him, it is necessary to warn in the presence of a real threat, which is currently absent.
