The law adopted by the State Duma on extending the status of combat veterans to military personnel performing combat missions in the Kursk region is important and corresponds to the task set by Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was announced on April 3 by Ekaterina Kharchenko, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education.

"The president's instruction that all the support measures that are required for the participants of the free movement should be available to the defenders of the Kursk region has been fulfilled!" she noted.

The MP explained that these statuses will be given to all those who repel the invasion of the Russian territory by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and stop an armed provocation on the state border and the regions adjacent to the special operation zone.

The introduced measure will also apply to police officers, employees of the Rosgvardiya, the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia, the Federal Penitentiary Service, bailiffs (FSIN), prosecutors and firefighters.

"Amendments have been made to the draft of the first reading — volunteers who took part in battles on the territory of border areas and settlements should also be recognized as veterans. Our warriors of light are true Heroes and should be equal in rights, regardless of whether they serve under contract or voluntarily defend the Fatherland," Kharchenko concluded.

At a meeting on April 3, the State Duma adopted in the second and third readings a law on extending the status of combat veterans to military personnel performing combat missions in the Kursk region. It clarifies that the law applies to those who have become disabled due to injuries or illnesses sustained while performing these tasks. According to the amendments, it is proposed to extend these standards to employees of federal services, and veteran status will also be granted to volunteers performing these tasks.
