Canada to impose duties of 25% on car imports from the United States

Canada will impose duties of 25% on all imported cars from the United States that are not subject to the North American Trade Agreement (USMCA). This was announced on April 3 by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
"Canada will respond to the US duties. In accordance with the American approach, Canada imposes 25% duties on all cars imported from the United States that do not comply with the requirements of CUSMA, our North American Free Trade Agreement," the politician stressed at a briefing.
Carney added that the imposition of trade duties by US President Donald Trump is not specifically directed against Canada, but will disrupt the global economy and negatively affect global economic growth.
The Canadian Prime Minister noted that the new import duties are a direct violation of the trade agreements that Trump discussed and promoted in his first term.
On April 2, the US president announced large-scale trade measures: base tariffs of 10% are introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%.
Later, on April 3, the European Commission announced that on April 7, the EU trade ministers would approve measures in response to the duties imposed by the United States.
