On April 7, the ministers of Trade of the European Union (EU) countries will approve measures in response to the duties imposed by the United States, said the head of the EU trade Department, Maros Sefcovic. His words were published on the website of the European Commission (EC) on April 3.

"I will discuss the next step with the EU trade ministers on April 7, and the vote is expected to take place in two days," Sefcovic said.

It is specified that consultations on countermeasures have already been completed.

According to him, the EU's actions will complement the rebalancing measures already announced after the US decision last month to "limit steel and aluminum exports worth €26 billion."

"The EU has long advocated strong, fair and mutually beneficial trade. We have proven time and time again that this approach brings rich dividends to both our partners and us," he added.

On April 2, US President Donald Trump announced large-scale trade measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again.

Acting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the introduction of import duties by the US president is a mistake. He added that Germany would defend its interests.
