Scammers have perfected a deception scheme: during a conversation with an interlocutor, they seek to create a false sense of security in him, convincing him that "no SMS codes should be called." VTB specialists identified such tactics and informed Izvestia on April 4.

"During the first call, scammers try to scare the client or act deliberately so that the person does not have doubts about their intent. For example, they tell the client that he needs to wait on the line, and, allegedly turning off the sound, they discuss that in two minutes they can connect the "FSB general" to the conversation. Then the call ends, or the client hangs up on his own," the experts said.

Then the person receives an SMS or an email stating that an attempt was made to log into his account at a government service, bank, or any other application from an unfamiliar device. The message suggests calling a specific number or changing the password using the link. The phone number and the link address are very similar to the official numbers of government agencies, banks or telecom operators. By clicking on it, the user gets to phishing sites through which attackers receive data from the victim's personal account. But another conman is waiting for a call at the supposedly official number.

When a person calls the specified phone number, they scare him and offer to transfer money to a secure account to protect the money. Having trusted, the victim himself transfers the available funds to the attackers, takes out loans and transfers money to strangers, for example, through couriers.

In addition, the experts added that scammers can persuade you to install the Central Bank's application and send the money to an ATM to protect it. Approaching him, the man puts the phone to the NFC reader and transfers money to the card, which is controlled by criminals.

The bank stressed that you only need to call the credit institution using the number indicated on the card and the official website.

Earlier, on April 2, it was reported that one in five Russians (21%) was deceived in the digital space, and 13% of respondents became victims of scams in real life, offline. Half of the respondents (50%) fell for the tricks of intruders both on and off the Internet. This is stated in the results of a study of the <url> service.
