The introduction of new duties may lead to a slowdown in US economic growth in 2025, as well as provoke an increase in inflation. This opinion was shared by Freedom Finance Global analyst Yuri Ichkitidze in an interview with Izvestia on April 3.

"We expect inflation in the United States (the base PCE deflator) of 3.3–3.8% per annum after the duties imposed. There will also be an obvious slowdown in the growth of the US economy in 2025, according to our estimates, to 0.9–1.3% by the fourth quarter. We are waiting for the data to show up within six months," he said.

According to him, the negative effect for the United States is associated with the "boomerang effect" — retaliatory measures and rising prices. Inflation may increase by 1-1.5% this year.

The expert also questioned the effectiveness of transferring production to the United States, given the possible abolition of tariffs after negotiations with trading partners.

"Donald Trump is looking for lucrative deals. He doesn't want to harm anyone, he wants to be negotiated with on favorable terms," Ichkitidze summed up.

On the same day, the US president announced the tariffs. He also showed a chart with a list of countries and topics related to the new duties of the United States against them. China was at the top.
