Belarus called the Zapad-2025 exercises a demonstration of defense capabilities

The purpose of the Zapad-2025 exercises between Russia and Belarus scheduled for September is to demonstrate the countries' readiness to defend themselves and confirm that they do not pose a threat to other states. This was announced on April 3 by the Minister of Defense of Belarus Viktor Khrenin.
"We are conducting these exercises independently on the basis of our own decision, without regard to Western countries...>We are conducting these exercises for ourselves and to show that we are ready to defend ourselves and do not threaten anyone," he told the First Information TV channel.
According to him, the exercises are conducted by the decision of Belarus and Russia and their main task is to increase the level of training of military personnel and improve cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.
Earlier, on April 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the joint actions of Russia and Belarus ensure the strengthening of the defense potential and reliable security of the Union State. According to him, both countries defend legitimate foreign policy interests and work with foreign partners to form a multipolar world order.
On March 13, Putin announced during a press conference with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko that the agreement on security guarantees between Russia and Belarus had entered into force. He recalled that this document defines mutual allied obligations to ensure reliable defense and security of the two states.
